Pedro from Down the Street

Jeremy had his trip to the vet a couple weeks ago. I didn't need to use a trap. I set a carrier next to him and guided him into it. He has a great temperament, but was not happy once the carrier was closed.

He recovered quickly and was ready to release that evening. He remains one of several cats that has no fear of me. I can reach down and pick him up without a fight, but he does not like being held. All of the other cats get along well with him except for Little Kim occasionally swiping at him at the food bowl.

My next 'target cat' is Pedro. Pedro is most likely a sibling of Pablo (mother of Catie, Dora, and Walter White). He showed up last summer with Pablo, then was rarely seen for months. Now he is showing up alone, evenings at the cul de sac. He is not accepted by the other colony cats. It looks like he may be suffering from flea infestation and generally looks rough.

Just another feral, scared of humans and most other cats. It would be easy to ignore him - let him fade away eventually never to be seen again. Not easy for me. Over the past week I have sat and spoken calmly when he approaches to grab some food. Last night he was comfortable being within ten feet of me without darting away. I set some cut chicken out for him away from the other cats. For a moment he ate, then Tom, Patrick, and Smokey surrounded him. Just as Smokey started to move for attack, I stepped close saying their names and Pedro retreated without a fight.

He is usually hungry and generally isolated, so I may be able to trap him easily with some chicken for bait. The problem may be that he eats in the evening. If I trap him after the vet is closed for the day, I'll have to keep him in holding overnight - an angry flea infested feral. Hoping for the best and planning for next Monday to begin trap attempts.
