During the December holidays I've been feeding the cats that cluster at the neighbor's house to the east. I think of them as Betty's clan. She had several litters of kittens from when I first started paying attention to the ferals.
I found homes for some of her kittens. She may have viewed me as a predator after I took away some of her kittens as she watched. She was unhealthy when I had her spayed, which led to a prolonged stay at the vet and in my dog crate while she recovered. When released, Betty moved from the area by the spring to my neighbor's yard where cats have an underground den around an old storm drainage system.
The cats that live with her are Nike & Fluffy (known to be her kittens) along with Ranger & East-side (which may be her older kittens) and Tanya & Boot (known to be Molly's kittens - she is no longer present).

Of these cats Fluffy, Boot, and Tanya are fairly comfortable with my presence. The others run away before I can get near. It was nice to see Betty regularly again. She looks healthy and cared for. My neighbors buy special soft-chew food considering that she is missing some teeth and they have set up quite a few cat bedding shelters on their back porch.
