Kittens

In late September, I knew that there were weaned kittens appearing with Sasha. She kept a watchful eye on them and they were exploring the food bowls. September 29th, a former co-worker called asking if I had any kittens available.

"No, but there's three young kittens in my area. Do you want one? They're wild animals and will need to be socialized."

He said that's exactly what he'd like for his daughter, knowing that it would take some work. I put out the small trap as soon as I got home and left it for 20 minutes. One of the young kittens was trapped when I returned.

It's a male and I called him Theodore. Joe picked him up that evening and he is doing well.

I thought that Theodore was one of three. Soon I realized there are still three and I wouldn't rule out four. Sasha is a kitten machine, producing the litter with Dan, Dawn, and Patrick in the spring, then these four or five in the summer.

I wish that I could find homes for them all. I can't. Past experience says that the odds are against all of them surviving the winter. I'm going to put together some good shelter boxes soon. Hopefully that will help.
